Avoiding malnutrition and getting your kids to eat healthy balanced diets can get a little tricky. However, here are some tips you can start practicing;
1. Offer foods from all five good groups each day. Together they give the right mix of nutrients your toddler needs.
2. Have a routine and offer three meals and two to three snacks each day. Offer only nutritious snacks as sweet foods can make them picky.
3. Limit: Fried food, packet snacks, pastries, cakes, and biscuits.
Avoid: Sugary squash, fizzy drinks, fruit juice, tea and coffee, whole nuts, and small foods that may cause choking.
4. Encourage physical activity for at least three hours every day, 6 to 8 drinks (esp. water), and about 12 hours sleep.
5. Eat together as a family and make mealtimes a happy occasion. Make food easy to eat and eat the foods that you would like your toddler to eat. Praise your toddler when he or she eats well or tries something new.
