How To Get Your Child To Drink More Water

Whether or not your child is an athlete, they must drink enough water but it can be difficult to get kids to drink their recommended daily amount of water, especially when there are other sweet alternatives – chocolate milk, soda, and juice.

Since our bodies lose water through breathing, sweating, and digestion, proper hydration is essential for the body to stay healthy and energized. Your child’s exact water intake needs can vary based on their height and weight, biological sex, activity level, and even the weather.

Here are some tips on how to improve water intake:

  • Add fruits like cucumber to add flavor.
  • Use frozen fruit in place of ice cubes.
  • Buy tiny water bottles (4 or 8 ounces) that are easy for kids to hold and drink.
  • Provide your child with a special/fun drinking cup
  • Set up a reward system.
  • Be a role model.
  • Make up a game with the color of their pee. If it is yellow, they need to drink more water.
