Mindful Parenting Habits

Posted in: Child health and Parenting

Mindful parenting is the concept of being present, at the moment, with your children. Your attention may as well be the greatest gift you can ever give your children, and mindful parenting is a way to help you to do that. Here are ways to be more mindful of personal and parenting habits;

Model Healthy Relationships

Teens learn about relationships from multiple sources, but their first glimpse comes from you, their parents. So you must practice good relationship dynamics with your spouse, children, extended family, colleagues, strangers, and friends.

Keep In Mind – Gender Equity

When it comes to dating violence, teens of all gender need conversations about safe dating to ensure all of their relationships are healthy for everyone involved.Often, when parents discuss dating and dating violence with their teen girls, they don’t involve the boys, which is wrong.

Manage Anger Around Children

It can be easy to get frustrated with your teenagers. Parenting can be stressful, to say the least. If you find yourself upset with your teens, it’s helpful for them to watch you model healthy anger or conflict resolution.

Listen And Empathize

When your teen is talking to you, free yourself from distraction, maintain eye contact, and repeat what they say to assure them that you are listening. Try not to brush off what they are saying as unimportant. Show your teen that you care about all their concerns – big or small.

Admit Your Mistakes

We are all human, and we all make mistakes, parents included. Admit when you make a mistake and apologize, it models strength and good character.

The good thing is, although parenting is hard, it is also very rewarding, which usually comes much later than the hard work.

What are some of the things you do to be a more mindful parent?
