Picking An Extracurricular Activity: Child’s Or Parent’s Choice?

Posted in: Child health and Parenting

Picking an extracurricular activity should be both the child’s and the parent’s choice to make.

Here are some things to consider:

  1. Decide whether the activity supports important values. For example, sports help a kid to learn and practice self-discipline, cooperation, perseverance, physical health, etc.
  2. What are the long-term benefits?
  3. Consider an extracurricular close to our child’s natural talents or abilities.
  4. Is your child interested?
  5. How often does it take place and will the cost affect you?
  6. Check for safety. How is the environment, equipment, instructor, etc?

Did we miss any point? How did you determine the right extracurricular activity for your child?
