As part of our activities to provide mental health and psychosocial support to children in distress, we conducted a therapeutic play outreach to children who were unwell to enjoy outdoor activities on a day specially dedicated to them – Children’s Day.
This play outreach was conducted at Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where children participated in various activities like pottery, painting, puzzles, and games.
For many of the children, this was their first experience with such activities, and the excitement was palpable as they interacted with peers and tried new things. Our goal was to boost their physical and emotional well-being and give them a positive experience of their hospital stay.
Parents and healthcare workers at LASUTH who observed the event were just as excited for the children, emphasising the role of play in providing much-needed psychosocial support for hospitalised children.
