Tips To Increase Your Child’s Everyday Activity At Home

Posted in: Child health and Parenting

Physical activity will help your child feel lighter and prevent conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure.

For most toddlers, just turn the lock, and they are gone like a bolt. Try getting them back in the house, and your diplomacy or autocratic skills will get tested. For older kids, the challenge is usually getting them to go outdoors.

Here are tips on how to increase your child’s everyday activity at home;

1. Find an activity that your child enjoys and that is fun, readily available, affordable, and matches your child’s age and skill level.

2. Be active together. Let your child see you being active too. Encourage lots of free playtimes outside. Incorporate walking into the daily routine.

3. Be supportive and encouraging. Some children feel embarrassed and uncomfortable about their physical skills or appearance.

4. Limit sedentary activity like TV viewing, watching videos, playing personal screen games, and using computers.

Remember, if your child gets hot, puffed, and sweaty when active, this is generally a good sign that they are working their bodies and getting some benefit from the exercise. Watch out for signs of dehydration though.
Most importantly, make sure they are having fun while being active. That’s the only way to keep it up.
